US alt-food manufacturer Voyage Foods will open a 284,000sq ft manufacturing facility in Ohio in early 2025 to accelerate production of its bean-free coffee, cocoa-free chocolate and nut-free spread products.

In a press release, California-based Voyage Foods said the site will enable the business to harness new opportunities in the CPG and foodservice segments.

The company will maintain its headquarters and a manufacturing site in Oakland, California.

“With this new facility, Voyage is maturing from a startup food technology company to a large-scale manufacturer with the ability to deliver value across the entire ecosystem to our people, partners, and the planet. We feel very lucky to establish roots in Mason and continue Voyage’s story here,” said Adam Maxwell, Founder and CEO, Voyage Foods.

Founded by Maxwell and Kelsey Tenney in 2021, Voyage Foods has raised more than $94m from investors to date.

In August 2024, Voyage Food launched a commercial partnership drive for its synthetic coffee range. Primarily targeting US foodservice operators and CPG manufacturers, California-based Voyage promotes its ‘bean-free brew’ as being 40% cheaper than mass-market coffee.

The announcement of its new manufacturing site announcement comes six months after beanless coffee brand Atomo Coffee opened a 33,500sq ft roastery in Seattle, which has capacity to produce four million pounds (1.8 tons) of beanless espresso each year.
