Netherlands-based coffee and tea group JDE Peet’s has invested €5m ($5.4m) to expand roasting and packaging capacity at its coffee factory in Kostinbrod, Bulgaria.
The investment is expected to increase output at the site by 25% this year, JDE Peet's said in a press release.
Opened in 1995, the Kostinbrod plant plays a key role in JDE Peet’s global supply network, manufacturing 85 packaged coffee products which are distributed to 18 European markets, including the UK, Italy, Greece and the Netherlands.
“These advancements represent a significant leap forward for the Kostinbrod coffee plant as we continue to prioritise innovation, sustainability, and excellence in all facets of our operations,” said Ivan Ivanov, Plant Manager at Kostinbrod.
JDE Peet’s, which produces and distributes major coffee brands, including L’or, Jacobs, Douwe Egberts Senseo and Tassimo, posted €8.2bn ($8.8bn) sales in 2023 alongside adjusted EBIT of €1.1bn ($1.2bn). The group currently serves over 100 markets with a total portfolio of more than 50 brands.
