LONDON– Cimbali Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of professional coffee machines, has published its 2024 Sustainability Report “Our blend for the future”. The report reflects the Group’s proactive commitment to building a culture of transparency and, for the first time, sets the company on a path towards progressive alignment with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
The report details how Cimbali Group has strengthened its governance structure with the creation of a new Board committee dedicated to Ethics & Sustainability Governance. Working alongside the existing People & Culture and Value Chain committees, this new body ensures that sustainability considerations are fully integrated into decision-making. Another significant step forward has been the introduction of a double materiality analysis, which assesses not only the environmental and social impacts of the Group’s activities but also the related financial risks and opportunities. This approach has helped identify key priorities such as decarbonisation across products and services, with particular emphasis on the growing importance of energy efficiency in coffee machines.
Environmental focus: our future is for the planet
On the environmental front, Cimbali Group achieved 100% certified renewable electricity use across its Italian operations in 2024. This milestone was reached through the expansion of photovoltaic systems at production sites, alongside the purchase of guarantees of origin to certify renewable energy consumption and reduce Scope 2 emissions to zero. As a result, 84% of the Group’s total electricity now comes from renewable sources(up from 54% in 2023), of which 64% was renewable energy purchased (47% in 2023) and 20% was self-produced (7% in 2023). During 2024 the company also intensified efforts to measure and report Scope 3 emissions across its value chain, while continuing to integrate sustainability criteria into R&D, with investments in energy-saving technologies aimed at lowering the environmental impact of machines in use.
Social focus: our future is in people
In terms of social responsibility, Cimbali Group has long promoted diversity, inclusion and fairness in the workplace, ensuring an environment where every individual can realise their potential. In 2024, the company achieved voluntary UNI Pdr 125 certification for gender equality, which consolidated multiple initiatives into a structured framework that embeds equality across governance, culture, strategy and people policies. This framework is built on six pillars: recruitment and inclusion; development and engagement; fairness and reward; parenthood, care and work–life balance; workplace environment and wellbeing; and protections against discrimination and harassment.
Also in 2024, Cimbali Group introduced a Supplier Code of Conduct to ensure that all partners operate in line with its high ethical and professional standards. The document has already been shared with more than 180 suppliers across its value chain.
Governance focus: our future is ethical and transparent
The company has also reaffirmed its commitment to ethics and integrity through its Code of Ethics and a governance model designed to ensure balance, independence and transparency in decision-making. The Code is inspired by international standards on human rights and anti-corruption, and a dedicated whistleblowing channel has been introduced to provide a clear and secure way to report any suspected misconduct linked to business activities. This system reinforces accountability and strengthens Cimbali Group’s culture of transparency.
Specific focus: our future is culture
Finally, Cimbali Group has enriched its reporting with a specific focus on culture, highlighting the dissemination of coffee knowledge through MUMAC and MUMAC Academy. Founded in 2012 to mark the Group’s centenary, MUMACis today the world’s largest museum dedicated to professional espresso machines. In 2024 it welcomed more than 6,200 visitors during ordinary opening days and hosted 24 special events and initiatives for local communities and wider audiences. MUMAC Academy, which plays a vital role in training professionals and promoting Italian espresso culture worldwide, trained more than 4,500 people in 2024 through courses delivered by Cimbali Group’s expert trainers.
Frédéric Thil, General Manager of Cimbali Group, commented: “2024 has been a crucial year for us. We have strengthened our commitment to sustainability and begun aligning our reporting to European standards. This report offers a transparent view of the progress we have made, the challenges ahead, and the areas where we will continue to invest to generate long-term value.”
