Moroccan-inspired heritage brand Bacha Coffee has opened its first store in Indonesia in partnership with franchisee Erajaya Food and Nourishment.

The 4,300sq ft outlet at the Plaza Senayan shopping centre in Jakarta features a coffee bar, takeaway counter and retail coffee boutique selling more than 200 packaged coffee varieties. The store also has a dedicated VIP room to ‘embody the concept of quiet luxury’ and serves handcrafted coffee cocktails in the evening.

“Bacha Coffee is renowned for its one-of-a-kind concept and tantalising pure Arabica coffee varieties and we are thrilled to bring the legendary Moroccan coffee brand to Jakarta. Bacha Coffee’s exceptional hampers also complement the Indonesian culture of gifting perfectly,” said Gabrielle Halim, CEO, Erajaya Food & Nourishment.

Founded in Marrakesh in 1910, the original Bacha Coffee café was located in Dar el Bacha palace and renowned for its prominent clientele, which included US President Franklin Roosevelt, UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and legendary entertainer, Charlie Chaplain.

Having ceased operations after the Second World War, Bacha Coffee was revived by Singapore-based lifestyle group V3 Gourmet in 2019. The business is seeking to scale the heritage brand across Southeast Asia and currently operates 16 stores across Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Indonesia.

Bacha Coffee will also open its first South Korean outlet in Seoul in July 2024, via a franchising agreement with department store and shopping centre giant Lotte Department Store.

In addition to its southeast Asia presence, V3 Gourmet operates single Bacha Coffee sites in Morocco, France, the UAE and Kuwait alongside two stores in Qatar.

Bacha’s Indonesia franchisee Erajaya Food and Nourishment also operates licensed Paris Baguette stores in Indonesia.
