In 2022, Pusat Penelitian Kopi dan Kakao Indonesia (the Indonesian Coffee and Coca Research Institute, or ICCRI) and WCR initiated a demo plot program in West Java to demonstrate to local farmers the high performance of Komasti, a composite arabica variety recognized for its strong resistance to diseases like coffee leaf rust and high yield potential. The variety, which originates from a breeding program conducted by ICCRI researchers, was released officially in 2013, but until now, the variety has not yet been widely adopted by Indonesian farmers due to limited promotion, testing, and accessibility. Now, the initial phase of this program has concluded, and the researchers involved are citing positive reception from farmers in the area. ICCRI will continue with the evaluation and dissemination of the variety in collaboration with local industry partners to support growers and strengthen the coffee community on the ground.
